A Labor Day Weekend to Remember
This past weekend was definitely one that will go down in the memory books. It was one of the greatest Labor Day weekends that I can remember. Our friends, the Clarks, from Charleston came in for a visit. I was so worried about the weather because it was supposed to be raining all weekend long, but God was looking out for us!! The weather was beautiful!!
The Clarks arrived Friday evening just in time for dinner. After dinner, we did what we would normally do when living in Charleston, we cleared off the table to play some games! Our choice for the night was Phase 10 Masters. If you are wondering what Phase 10 Masters is, it's just like Phase 10 but in this game you get to choose the phase you complete each round. This can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. That night it was definitely a disadvantage. I ended the game with 500 points and only had completed like 5 phases. We ended the night with BJ beating us all because I had dealt him the exact phase he needed!! Like I said, it was definitely not my night!!
On Saturday morning, we woke up and headed to Parksville lake for a day of relaxing on the water. We met my mom and dad and my sister and her family who had stayed the night at the cabin. We couldn't have asked for better weather as we floated on the water in the cove and took the boat out to let the kids tube!! Unfortunately, even though the weather was beautiful the clouds were out so we didn't have that great of a view of the sunset but it was still pretty!! Of course, we had to end the night playing another round of Phase 10 Masters. Although, BJ won again, it definitely was a better night for me. I don't remember what my final score was but everyone was about even and I completed almost all of the phases. It's amazing how much fun the four of us can have just hanging out playing games!!
Sunday morning started out like normal, we went to church. The praise band BJ is now in got to play in the main sanctuary and we had an amazing guest speaker. Which meant we got out of church a lot later then we had originally planned but it turned out fine. After church, we headed to the Ocoee Dam Deli for lunch. I wanted the Clarks to experience of eating Dam food and the Dam deli :) The food was delicious as always and then we headed up Chilhowee mountain. As we started our hike to Benton Falls, the clouds looked very dark and we were a little worried our hike would turn out to be a wet one!! Although, it got really dark and windy and it stated to rain a little, God spared us from the downpour that apparently took place down below at Parksville Lake. The falls were beautiful and we were able to stay mostly dry!! On our way home from our hike, we stopped at Orange Leaf to get some frozen yogurt. Although, the yogurt was wonderful, it turned out not to be the best idea we had because it made some of the crew not want to eat their dinner!! Just proof that having dessert before dinner can ruin your appetite!! Being our last night, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to play one last game!! Our game of choice was Rummikub. If you have never played, you really need to try it out! It is a lot of fun, even when you are completely exhausted from a long day. Although, you might not play as good. Just ask Jenn!!
Monday morning came way too soon!! We decided we had to play Rummikub one last time before they got on the road. Jen was definitely more alert and realized how much she loved the new game now that she really knew what she was doing!! Once we finished our game, they got on the road to head back to Charleston and I crashed to get ready for my first day at my new job. Tune in another day for more information on that topic...
